- August 2003 -

The UK is getting the Indy DVD box a day earlier...

  Thursday, August 14, 2003 - Gilles V

The Czech website DVD Base posted a different The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD Collection press release today. According to this new press release, the DVD box will be released on October 20th in the UK. That's a day earlier than the US release. Here's a part of the UK press release:

The Adventures of Indiana Jones - Brings Home the Excitement of Three All-Time Movie Classics on 20th October 2003

Fourth Disc of Bonus Material and Newly Restored and Remastered Films Bring New Dimension to the Indiana Jones' Experience

London (Aug. 13th, 2003) : After years of waiting, Indiana Jones fans everywhere are preparing for the long-awaited premiere of all three of the rogue archaeologist's classic adventures in the ultimate home-entertainment format.

From the groundbreaking excitement of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) to the sinister mysteries of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and the father-son adventures of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), the chills, spills and heroics of The Man in the Hat have never looked or sounded better than they do on THE ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES ' THE COMPLETE DVD MOVIE COLLECTION (PG), available to own on DVD from 20th October 2002 (RRP) L44.99.

This is not the first time a Lucasfilm film gets released on DVD a day earlier in the UK than in the US. The same thing happened with the release of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Thanks to Peter Balaz from The Light of Indiana Jones for the news.

Official Indy DVD press release also says Oct. 21

  Friday, August 8, 2003 - Gilles V

I have just received the official press release on the release date change for the Indiana Jones DVD trilogy set. Here's an except of the press release:

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Aug. 8, 2003) – After years of waiting, Indiana Jones fans everywhere are preparing for the long-awaited Oct. 21 premiere in the U.S. and Canada of all three of the rogue archaeologist’s classic adventures in the ultimate home-entertainment format.
From the groundbreaking excitement of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) to the sinister mysteries of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and the father-son adventures of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), the chills, spills and heroics of The Man in the Hat have never looked or sounded better than they do on THE ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES – THE COMPLETE DVD MOVIE COLLECTION.
The image of each film has been carefully restored by Lowry Digital Images and the films have been digitally remastered by THX. Each of the four films offers a new Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. This special boxed set, which goes on sale Oct. 21 for approximately $49.95 in the U.S. (there is no suggested retail price, and international prices will vary), will be available in either widescreen or full-screen format.

You can view the full press release here.

So why did Paramount Pictures decide to move the release date of the Indiana Jones DVD trilogy forward? ... a small orange fish named Nemo! The Disney/Pixar movie, Finding Nemo will become available on DVD on November 4th, the same day that the Indiana Jones DVD Trilogy was to be released, but to avoid competition, Paramount moved the release date to October 21st.

"We're ready to go with it now," Paramount said to Coming Soon!, adding the title will have "a stronger retail presence" on the new date.

Many thanks to Paramount Pictures for making the decision to move the release date of the Indiana Jones DVD movie collection forward with 2 weeks. Or should we thank Disney/Pixar? Anyway, I think it's the first time I hear about a release that will eventually happen earlier than first announced.

A look at the Indiana Jones DVD press kit

Indyesp.net has obtained photos of the press kit of the Complete Indiana Jones DVD Movie Collection. This book was intended for retailers only and it contains material that is written specifically for the retailers. In other words, this press kit shouldn't have appeared on the internet... so we are in for a treat here. Take a look:

Indiana Jones DVD set release is 2 weeks earlier!

  Thursday, August 7, 2003 - Gilles V

Earlier this week we could read on the Paramount Home Entertainment site that the release date for the Indiana Jones DVD trilogy set is October 21st. I didn't believe it at first so I began looking around for proof that this is not an error... and I've got some good news, the release date change is a fact!

It has been officially announced that the release date of the Complete Indiana Jones DVD Movie Collection has moved up two weeks to October 21, 2003. The Digital Bits also got confirmation from Paramount that the street date for their Indiana Jones DVDs has been moved up from Nov. 4th to October 21.

The U.K. gets a cut version of Temple of Doom on DVD

  Thursday, August 7, 2003 - Gilles V

R2 project reported this past Monday that the U.K. will get a cut version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in the upcoming DVD set. Here's the original report:

The BBFC have confirmed to us that Paramount have submitted the previous cut version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for release in the upcoming DVD set. Interestingly when asked if the uncut version would get a 12 or a 15 certificate the BBFC would simply say "We can't speculate as to what certificate the full version would get without seeing it again." So come on Paramount, why not give it a try, you never know that uncut version may well stay 12?

After contacting Lucasfilm about this I can say that this is not a rumor. The boxed Indiana Jones DVD set in the U.K. will feature a slightly edited version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
In 1984, the British Board of Film Classification requested that one very intense moment of the film – the shot in which we see Mola Ram pulling the heart out of a man – be removed in order to secure a PG rating. Since that is the only version of the film that British audiences have ever seen in theaters and on TV, Paramount and Lucasfilm decided that it should be the one included in the DVD.

The rest of Europe should not worry, this slightly edited version of Temple of Doom will only get released in the U.K.!

New Disney Indy action figures released

  Monday, August 4, 2003 - Gilles V

The new line of Indiana Jones action figures have hit the stores at the Adventure Outpost store in Disneyland California. And maybe also in other Disney Theme Parks around the world, but we still have to receive news on those.

This new line includes the following figures: A new Indiana Jones, Marian Ravenwood, German Soldier, German Mechanic and Cairo Swordsman.

Unfortunately these figures are Disney Theme Park only exclusives - similar to the assortment released a few years ago - and are only obtainable in Disney Theme Parks. But fortunately they will also appear at eBay now and then. There's already an auction at eBay selling the new Cairo Swordsman figure!

Please contact me if you have more information or pictures about this new line of Indiana Jones action figures.
