More Indiana Jones on DVD information!

  Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - Gilles V

Indyfan Jonathan Miller was recently on the phone with a local (Western Australia) office of Paramount Home Entertainment when the person on the other end of the line mentioned the Indiana Jones DVDs. (ie: both are very much creator-controlled, unlike the majority of back catalogue titles).

Jonathan managed to gather the following information regarding the Indy films on DVD:

  • Obviously, it will be a world-wide release in November.
  • It will only be available as a 3 movie box set, not as individual films.
  • There will be 4 discs, including a bonus features disc with "2 1/2 hours
    of material".

Not much new info but it's semi-official. The studio will make the news official in the next few weeks.

TheForce.Net also posted some new information on the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles DVDs. Here's what they reported today:

Lucasfilm plans to release the films in one big shot in 2005 so there are 4 teams of producer/researchers working with editors who are going to create ONE HUNDRED-TWENTY (120) separate mini-docs on the varied historical figures that were portrayed in the series. First up: Teddy Roosevelt. Being created and cut on the Ranch.
No word yet on the length of each of these but historians and experts are being interviewed all over the country to be cut into the historical footage and stills of each figure. FASCINATING that LucasFilm wants to educate as well as entertain!

Both DVD news reports are very exciting indeed. Thanks to Jonathan Miller and TheForce.Net for the news. Stay tuned... more is coming!

Another Indy DVD rumor is spreading out

  Wednesday, April 23, 2003 - Gilles V

A TheForce.Net insider has spread some Indiana Jones DVD information. Here's what the insider - nicknamed Teabags - reported:

From what I’ve gathered from other internet news sources, Lucasfilm is doing a major overhaul to the original films in terms of image quality. But what I know hasn’t been seen on the net yet. Basically what you need to know is that the movies will be interactive – it wont be mandatory during film viewing, but you will have the option of learning more about the people and places depicted in various scenes. For instance, when Indy is in Cairo, you can stop to learn more about Northern Africa during the 1930s.
And I’ve also read rumors on other news sites that the DVDs wont be released as a trilogy, but one at a time over the next three years, with Raiders set to be released by Christmas 2003. I know the only "information stops" that have been worked on so far are related solely to places Indy went in Raiders of the Lost Ark, so I would presume that this release schedule is correct.

This sounds very exciting but it's still only a rumor. It's the first time I heard that the Indy films will be interactive so I'm not certain what to think about. But I currently doubt that the Indy Trilogy will be released one at a time. Why?
I have received information from someone working at a company specialized in embossing DVD boxes that his company is doing a lot of work on a special Indiana Jones Trilogy DVD box. Something similar to the 20th Anniversary Edition 'Alien Legacy' DVD box, but only much better.

We will just have to wait and see which source is correct. So stay tuned!

Indiana Jones Trilogy 'Special Edition' on DVD

  Wednesday, April 9, 2003 - Gilles V

TheForce.net posted some very interesting information on the anticipated Indiana Jones Trilogy DVD set that will be released later this year. Some of their inside sources began spilling details on the DVDs. Here's their report:

Industrial Light and Magic are working on the Indy DVD Trilogy right now. Hard to believe, isn't it? Hopefully, it will be worth the wait. Here's what I do know - apparently ILM is having to conduct a major restoration of the original print. There's quite a bit of digital film cleanup they're conducting as well.
No, there's not new scenes added (and the guy with the sword doesn't shoot first, thank goodness), but they are removing certain errors and weak elements from the picture. Expect wiring, equipment and reflections to be removed digitally - anything that distracted or looked weak in the final release may be evaluated again. Basically they've come up with a list of what gets fixed. When you see the DVD, hopefully the only thing you'll see is a beautiful movie with great sound, not lots of little annoyances that Steve and George want out.

New Disney Indiana Jones action figures revealed

  Tuesday, April 1, 2003 - Gilles V

Figures.com has released the first pictures of the new Disney Indiana Jones action figures. Here's their original article:

As we have previously reported, Harry Moore Design -- digital illustration, packaging, and design-- informed us that new Indiana Jones action figures were in the works with his studio in charge of the packaging. These will be Disney Theme Park only exclusives, similar to the assortment released a few years ago. This set includes Indy, Marion, and 3 villains.

The action figures are very cool, although they don't bare much likeness to the characters in the films. I must have them!
